About

Guy Looking At Server is a reaction image and image macro of a man with his hands on his hips looking confusedly at the inside of a server rack. It is most often posted as a reaction to show when a person is doing a job they don't know how to do. The meme tends to circulate whenever a major website, game or platform goes offline due to a crash or service outage, with the man identified as the tech support working to get the site back online for humorous effect.

Origin

The man is Chase Holt, and the image (seen below) was first posted to his profile on May 28th, 2021.[1] According to that post and others following, Holt had secured a job via Indeed.com working with computers and servers despite holding no qualifications whatsoever. The photo, from his second day at work, was part of a series documenting his professional journey. Holt seems to have worked the job at the server place for at least a few weeks, but now appears to work elsewhere.

I have some sympathy for this guy, having witnessed at my company two contractor "techs" scratch their head for a whole day trying to repair an out-of-order videoconference installation.

Turns out that yes, you can't use the vendor's reinstallation disk if the network card is not working, because it needs to download files from the internet to do the reinstall.

Priceless (and that's exactly the diagnosis I sent to their N1 support).
