After serving more than eight years for the murder of her mother, Blanchard joined TikTok, Instagram and other social media, garnering millions of followers in a short time. Her participation in TV shows like The View and other news interviews in early January 2024 became trending topics on the internet, as people joked and made memes about the situation looking like a movie press tour.

On January 5th, 2024, X^[1] user @aramnotagoat shared a clip of Blanchard's participation on The View show in which she talks about her experience and says that she got out of her [family] situation in "the wrong way," to which the interviewer Joy Behar gets confused by her answer for a few seconds and later says "oh you mean that part," referring to her mother's murder. The scene (shown below) received over 464,000 views and 12,000 likes in a few hours.

After Blanchard's interview on The View went viral, some users started to comment about what they perceived as her "press tour" agenda in the weeks following her release in late December 2023.

For example, on January 5th, 2024, X^[2] user @alex_abads shared a clip of American singer Lady Gaga saying, "I don't believe in the glorification of murder but I do believe in the empowerment of women," which was paired with the caption "the Gypsy Rose Blanchard press tour." The post (shown below) amassed more than 247,000 views and 10,000 likes in a few hours.

On the same day, Gypsy posted on her newly created TikTok^[3] account @gypsyroseblanchard727 an "outfit of the day" post (shown below, left) for the second day of press conferences. The video received roughly 18 million plays and 3.2 million likes in a few hours.

Also on January 5th, 2024, the TikTok^[4] page @entertainmenttonight shared a clip from an interview with Blanchard (shown below, right) in which she mentions her admiration for Taylor Swift and hopes to see her live someday. The video amassed over 879,000 plays and 125,000 likes in a few hours.
