He Got Money refers to a catchphrase that originated from a self produced 2014 Instagram series called "Girl Who Has Never Been on a Nice Date" by comedian, writer and producer Quinta Brunson. The sketch depicted Quinta on a date where she reacted to her partner ordering several snacks at the movie theater, and exclaiming "He got money!" when her date buys a size large drink.
Origin
In a now deleted Instagram post from January 2nd, 2014, Quinta Brunson posted a clip to her comedy series entitled, "The Girl Who's Never Been on a Nice Date | Part 2: The Movies." The video was also uploaded to her YouTube[1] on January 2nd on the same date, gathering over 1.4 million views and 17,000 likes in nearly eight years (seen below).
Spread
The video resurfaced after Quinta Brunson's September 2022 Emmy Award win for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, with several internet users commending her meteoric rise to fame from Instagram sketches to Buzzfeed to Television.
Twitter[2] user Tyranny Banks posted a tweet n January 28th commenting on the similarity Quita's expressions between her Instagram comedian and TV star days. The post gathered over 17,000 likes and over 1,000 retweets (seen below, left). On September 12th, Twitter user @zedonarrival commented on Brunson's emmy win as well, gathering over 16,000 likes and 2,000 retweets (seen below, right).
