About
The Heart Butt Challenge, also known as Butt Heart Pose, is a social media trend and internet challenge in which people, typically women, upload photos taken from behind of themselves bent over at the waist and joining the tips of their fingers around their knees, making a rough heart shape. The trend purportedly began in Japan and was started by X / Twitter user and cosplayer @kykyky618.
The trend went viral in early April 2026 on sites including X / Twitter and Instagram as it spread online. The challenge largely consists of photographs, but also includes drawings and other forms of art, such as pop culture characters depicted in the pose, similar to the Jack-O Crouch.
Origin
On March 31st, 2026, X[1] / Twitter user @miss_preeti563 posted a photograph of a woman, taken from behind, where she is bent at the waist and joining her finger tips around her knees, making a heart shape. The post reads, "Woman goes viral for making a perfect heart using her body," and gained over 143,000 likes and 8,300 reposts in a week.
The woman in the photograph is X[2] user and cosplayer @kykyky618, also known as Kathy or きゃし, who took claim of the photo as it went viral. On April 3rd, she posted another photo to X[3] following the trend in a different colored dress, garnering over 71,000 likes in four days.
Spread
The X post by user @miss_preeti563 inspired many other social media users to participate in the trend as it gained traction in early April 2026, posting their own images of themselves in the same position.
On April 3rd, 2026, X[4] user @NandosRoll reposted both of @kykyky618's photos following the trend, writing, "This challenge is trending in Japan. Can South Africans do it better????" garnering over 80,000 likes in four days.
On April 4th, X[5] user @nikachi_tyan posted a version of the trend that gained over 30,000 likes in three days.
That day, X[6] user @MyLordBebo posted a video that compiles several examples of the trend, writing, "In Japan, there's a new online trend--girls are trying to depict a heart using their hands and their behind. Hey, this trend is hurting nobody … so please continue," garnering over 3,800 likes in three days.
On the same day, Instagram[7] user nqobile6322 reuploaded a few examples of the trend, gaining over 2,700 likes in three days.

On April 7th, 2026, Redditor Private_1010 posted a meme to the /r/dankmemes[8] subreddit about the trend, poking fun at women for starting the trend with World War III "around the corner," garnering over 7,500 upvotes in under a day.
