About

Here Comes The Boy, Hello Boy refers to a viral video and sound on TikTok in which a woman films a cat walking towards her while singing a song about it, referring to the cat as "boy." The video's original sound and a spinoff sound remixing it inspired a number of viral videos on the platform in late June and early July 2021, often showing animals walking toward the camera.

Origin

On June 30th, 2021, TikToker[1] @june_banoon posted a video of a neighborhood cat named Mashed Potatoes walking towards her as she sings, "here comes the boy, hello boy. Welcome. There he is. He is here," garnering over 6.1 million views in a week (show below).

Spread

The video inspired over 2,000 TikTokers to use the sound over the course of the next week. Many of the videos are stitches in which a TikToker adds instrumentation to the song. For example, on July 4th, TikTokers[2][3] @julian.ferretti and @alexfromsf added guitar and piano over the song respectively, garnering over 1.5 million and 4.3 million views in five days (shown below, left and right).

On July 5th, TikToker[4] @felixgabrielmusic posted a stitch to @alexfromsf's stitch, adding further keys to the song and gaining over 2 million views in four days (shown below).

Felixgabrielmusic then uploaded a version of the video as an original sound to TikTok[5] that day, which became a popular sound, inspiring over 35,000 videos over the course of the next four days. The most popular videos[6][7] under the sound use it as a theme song for videos of cats in the same vein as the original (examples shown below, left and right).
