About
Hey Mamas Lesbians, sometimes called TikTok Lesbians is a slang term used to describe a type of LGBTQ+ person and a group particularly active on TikTok post-2019. In early 2020, a group of masculine-dressing, mostly white lesbian women who post thirst trap content went viral for making a video in which they all take turns saying, "Hey mamas," a classic lesbian greeting for their community. The phrase then came to be known as a derogatory way to describe such lesbians who are considered to be cringy by many in the gay community.
Origin
Sometime in February 2020, a group of lesbian content creators on TikTok posted a now-deleted video compilation of them saying "Hey mamas" in a flirty manner. The video was posted to the TikTok account @themacthatsmilesback and gathered an unknown number of views and likes before removal. The video can be accessed via a February 24th, 2020, Duet by fellow content creator @bithoeji,[1] where it gathered over 40,000 plays and 6,000 likes in two years. (seen below).

The "Hey mamas" compilation video was widely recognized when it first went viral on TikTok, with various Twitter users noting their disdain for the upload.[2][3][4]

The phrase "hey mamas" or "hey mamas lesbian" came to be used to describe a certain genre of gay women on TikTok in subsequent years. Key members of the community on TikTok include the users @averycyrus, @hannah.raisor48 and @themacthatsmilesback, among others.
On November 13th, 2020, TikToker[7] @its_piper posted a video ranking various "hey mamas" lesbians on the app, gathering over 200,000 plays and 19,000 likes in two years (seen below).

On September 5th, 2020, TikToker[5] @emgracedawg posted a video in which they joked about how one can dress like a "hey mamas" lesbian, including wearing a backward snapback hat and a basketball jersey. The video gathered over 700,000 plays and 190,000 likes in two years (seen below, left). On October 13th, TikToker[6] @kyliexsullivan posted a video reacting to an audio made by a "hey mamas" lesbian, in which the person can be heard saying "you're such a good slut," receiving over 7,300 likes in a similar timeframe (seen below, right).

On November 24th, 2021, TikToker[8] @claireecowles posted a sketch featuring a "hey mamas" lesbian, gathering over 4.2 million plays and 1.1 million likes in a year (seen below, left). On February 14th, 2022, TikToker[9] @notstraightkait posted a video in which she identified the typical markers of a "hey mamas" lesbian, gathering over 430,000 plays and 58,000 views in a year (seen below, right).

On December 24th, 2022, TikToker[10] @allemims posted a series of videos discussing the nuances of calling someone a "hey mamas" lesbian when the general aesthetic for the community is purportedly derived from Black stud lesbian culture.
