"The Shining Road" ("光る道 Hikaru Michi" in Japanese) is one of the ending theme songs for the Japanese version of Sonic X. In the mid-2010s, the track became the subject of animated parodies on YouTube.
Origin
"The Shining Road" is performed by Aya Hiroshige. It was was used for episodes 14-39 of the Sonic X television show and again for episodes 53-78. In the show's original run, the song was used from July 6th, 2003 to December 28th, 2003.[1] On April 5th, 2008, the music video for the track was uploaded to YouTube since a year ago by "Sandra Samara."
Prior to that video's upload, an Anime Music Videos featuring Sonic and Amy was posted on August 1st, 2007, and gained over 20,000 views (shown below).
Spread
In the mid-2010s, more YouTube users uploaded AMVs to the site. One of AMVs uploaded to the site features Cosmo and Tails, and was created by YouTube user XsnxmH, uploaded October 2nd, 2012 (shown below, left). On August 30th, 2016, YouTube user Borck Unleashed uploaded a Source Filmmaker edit of the song that gained over 32,000 views (shown below, right). in 2018, FishyLemonDude the king of editing uploaded 3 videos what looks like an Anime Ending Parody.
Several uploads centered on a Sonic and Amy romance. For example, an animation by DarkXRose96 with the song gained over 40,000 views (shown below, left). It has also been covered on piano by YouTuber amosdoll, gaining over 6,000 views (shown below, right).
