I Was Just About To Consume This Delicious Banana refers to a 2005 scene from the anime Sonic X where Knuckles asks Dr. Eggman "what are you doing here?" and he answers in a panic, holding a banana, "I was just about to consume this delicious banana," then eats the banana. The scene became a popular exploitable in late 2021, edited where absurd things happen after Eggman eats the banana.

Origin

On October 1st, 2005, season three episode 56 of Sonic X premiered in the United States.^[1] In the episode, Eggman convinces Knuckles he isn't evil anymore and wants to use the Chaos Emerald to leave earth. Knuckles goes to give him the emerald despite Sonic and others warning him that Eggman is probably lying. In one scene, Sonic and Knuckles are about to fight when Knukles sees Eggman surrounded by Amy Rose and other characters. Knuckles approaches him and asks, "Eggman, what are you doing here?" Eggman responds, "I was just about to consume this delicious banana," then takes a bite of the banana (shown below).

The clip started to become the subject of edits around May 2020. For example, that month YouTuber^[2]
InAnotherCastle is on upload hiatus posted an edit where Eggman chews on the banana for an extended period of time accompanied by additional sound effects, gaining over 22,000 views in a year and a half (shown below).

On December 4th, YouTuber RexP posted a version where Eggman rots after biting the banana then starts singing a version of the song "Triple Trouble" from the Friday Night Funkin' mod of the same name, gaining over 61,000 views in a week (shown below, left). On December 9th YouTuber KimieDev posted an original animation recreating this meme, gaining over 281,000 views in four days (shown below, right).

On December 12th, YouTuber Zack Blade posted a version of the meme referencing Half-Life showing Eggman become a scientist after eating the banana, gaining over 52,900 views in a day (shown below, left). On the same day YouTuber Zdak posted a version using the Industrial Society And Its Future Audiobook audio after the bite, gaining over 225,000 views in the same span of time (shown below, right).

That day, Lessons In Meme Culture posted a video about the meme, gaining over 215,000 views in a day (shown below).
