About
The Hero Himmel Would've Done That refers to a catchphrase from the anime/manga Frieren: Beyond Journey's End about Himmel's heroic actions. The phrase went viral in early June 2024 after an Otaku who helped suppress a knife attack on the Taichung Metro in Taiwan said he helped because "Himmel would do the same". Fans of the character also started a trend on X based on things Himmel would've done, most notably the Himmel Would've Pirated Photoshop tweet, which inspired fan art and memes about the hero using a cracked version of the Adobe product.
Origin
Although the phrase "the Hero Himmel would've done that" was often mentioned by several characters from the Frieren: Beyond Journey's End manga and series, it was on June 5th, 2024, that the line gained viral attention. X[1] page @MangaMoguraRE shared the news about an otaku who helped suppress a knife attack on the Taichung Metro in Taiwan, saying he did it because "Himmel would do the same". The tweet (seen below) amassed more than 60,000 likes and 12,000 reposts in a week.
Spread
Shortly after the news about a Himmel fan stopping a knife attack went viral on X, the phrase "the Hero Himmel would've done that" also grew popular on the platform in ironic memes about the character's heroic actions. For example, on June 10th, 2024, X[2] user @xyanaid tweeted that "Himmel would've pirated Photoshop" (seen below. top), which amassed more than 29,000 likes and 4,800 reposts in three days.
@xyanaid's tweet sparked a series of fan art and memes showing Himmel using a pirate version of Photoshop, like @ShitpostRock's[3] post on June 12th, 2024, which uses a panel of the character from the Frieren manga, replacing the dialogue with the phrase "you can just pirate Adobe products. It its always morally correct." The post (seen below, bottom) received over 18,000 likes and 2,600 reposts in a day.
The phrase was also parodied on the X private likes controversy, in which user @tabakko[4] tweeted on June 12th, 2024, "Himmel the hero wouldn't hide the likes tab." On the same day, X[5] user @Heartbreak_Juan replied to @tabakko's tweet with fan art inspired by the post, showing Himmel in front of his liked tweets (seen below), which amassed more than 69,000 likes and 13,000 reposts in a day.
