Aura, Kill Yourself is a line from the manga Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, said by the eponym protagonist as an order given to a demon named Aura. This scene existed since 2020 in the manga, but only became viral after its anime adaptation in November 2023; it was referenced in many memes, some displaying Aura's severed head, and others showing her forced to obey various other orders.

Origin

Aura "the Guillotine" is an antagonist who appeared in chapter 14 of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, on August 19th, 2020. This powerful demon can use her Scales of Obedience to compare her mana to an opponent's; whoever has the highest mana will assert their dominance over the other and command them. When using her ability on Frieren in chapter 22, on October 14th, 2020, Aura ends up the loser and is forced to submit to her. Frieren then orders Aura to kill herself, which she does against her own will by cutting her own head off with her sword (see below).

This scene gained renewed popularity after it was adapted in the tenth episode of the anime (see below), first released on November 10th, 2023.

The anime version of that scene inspired many memes among the Frieren fandom, comically emphasizing Frieren's dominance over Aura. On November 10th, Twitter artist hatotoou posted^[1] a fanart redrawing the meme You Should Kill Yourself… Now! This post was liked over 18,000 likes and retweeted over 3,000 times.

On November 12th, pixiv artist Usagiyaru posted^[2] a fanart of Frieren depicting Aura as a soyjak and herself as a chad. It gained over 10,900 likes and 1,200 favorites.

One of the earliest artworks in which Aura is given a different, typically more cruel and humilating order was posted^[3] by tunaplus_c, on November 16th, 2023; in this drawing, Frieren orders Aura to animate the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen. This post gained over 21,000 likes and 3,000 retweets.

Among the most popular takes on this joke, a drawing^[4] by Khyleri, posted on March 4th, 2024, and in which Shinzo Abe commands Aura to have children, gained over 156,000 likes and 13,000 retweets.

Aura's death was humorously referenced in many memes showing her severed head. Among the most popular artworks in that trend, a drawing^[5] by Twitter artist tentenchan2525, posted on January 28th, 2025, in which Frieren uses Aura's head as a basket ball, gained over 109,000 likes and 8,000 retweets.
