RDCWorld is a sketch comedy group and brand based out of Waco, Texas that is primarily popular on YouTube with sketches related to pop culture phenomena, particularly basketball, hip-hop, video games and anime. The group has had several videos go widely viral, to the point where some of the subjects of those videos, including LeBron James and J. Cole, are confirmed to have seen them.

History

RDCWorld, which goes by the handle "RDCWorld1" on YouTube,^[1] launched on March 1st, 2012. The group was founded by Mark Phillips and Affiong Harris.^[2] According to a Vulture report, the group's first viral success was a sketch about how Math was invented. The YouTube upload of the post, dated February 25th, 2015, gained over 680,000 views on that platform (shown below).

In the second half of the 2010s and into the 2020s, the group continued finding viral success with sketches about anime, hip-hop, basketball, video games and other bits of nerd culture. Their basketball videos have performed exceptionally well, and often feature consistent parody versions of NBA stars. In multiple videos, Phillips plays LeBron James as a violently angry maniac toward teammates who let him down. The first of these was posted on June 21st, 2016, gaining over 15 million views in eight years (shown below, left). A January 13th, 2021 video in which he parodied LeBron James finding out James Harden joined the Brooklyn Nets gained 11 million views in three years (shown below, right). The video was quote-tweeted by LeBron James^[3] the following day, gaining over 114,000 retweets and 756,000 likes in three years.

The group has had multiple viral videos poking fun at rappers and hip-hop fans. For example, on May 1st, 2024, they released a sketch about Drake listening to Kendrick Lamar's "Euphoria," a dis track about Drake, and gained over 2.4 million views in five days (shown below, left). On May 4th, they released a sketch about Drake reacting to another Kendrick dis track, "Meet the Grahams," gaining over 3.1 million views in two days (shown below, right).

Online Presence

RDCWorld has gained over 6.8 million subscribers in twelve years as of May 6th, 2024.^[1] Phillips' Twitter account, @SupremeDreams_1,^[4] has over 1.2 million followers and his Instagram^[5] has over 2.9 million followers. The group is also on Twitch, where they have over 703,000 followers.^[6] The group's subreddit, /r/rdcworld,^[7] has over 15,000 followers. The group was profiled by Vulture^[3] in October of 2023.
