The image has been shared numerous times online since 2019, resulting in a number of memes referencing it. The catchphrase "infernal lust" has also spread following the meme, with the phrase and a screenshot of the isolated words from the 4chan post becoming an exploitable in 2020.

Origin

On June 23rd, 2019, an anonymous 4chan user shared a photograph of a smiling Asian woman eating with chopsticks with the post text "hpw do i quench my infernal lust towards Asian women?" A screenshot of the post was shared to /r/Cringetopia^[1] by a deleted Redditor on June 25th, gaining over 2,000 upvotes in two years (shown below).

Spread

On August 2nd, 2020, the screenshot was posted to iFunny^[2] by user RemJobs, gaining over 8,300 smiles in a year. On November 28th, 2020, Instagram^[3] user @weebypods posted an image of an Asian woman posing with a juice box with a Snapchat text bar across the image reading, "How do I quench my infernal lust towards Asian women?," gaining over 9,100 likes in nine months (shown below).

On December 6th, @weebypods posted a video to Instagram^[4] showing influencer @songyuxin_hitomi dancing in her train seat with the phrase underneath, gaining over 33,400 views in eight months (shown below, left). On January 18th, 2021, Instagram^[5] user @ethanol.fumes posted a video showcasing a number of these memes followed by an image of a man wearing a watermelon for a helmet, gaining over 38,700 views in seven months (shown below, right).

On June 7th, 2021, iFunny^[6] user TopFloof posted an image of the Asian woman's face from the original 4chan post with the text "infernal lust" blown up and attached to the bottom, gaining over 500 smiles in two months (shown below).
