About
I Am Rotating The Meme, Pray I Don't Rotate It Any Further refers to a series of memes showing Darth Vader from Star Wars seemingly rotating the meme to a nonsensical degree in each iteration that becomes more rotated, upside-down and unreadable. The meme's catchphrase is the anti-meme version of the Darth Vader I Am Altering The Deal memes. The trend started on iFunny in 2023.
Origin
On April 19th, 2023, iFunnyer[1] @gambs posted an upside-down meme that showed Darth Vader with top and bottom captions reading, "I AM ROTATING THE MEME / PRAY I DON'T ROTATE IT ANY FURTHER." Over the course of one week, the post gained roughly 2,500 smiles (shown below).
Spread
Soon after @gambs' meme, more iFunnyers posted variations on April 19th, 2023, that rotated the meme further, playing with the caption's sentiment. For instance, on April 19th, iFunnyer[2] @MittensTheKing shared a 90-degree angle version, gaining roughly 11,000 smiles in one week (shown below, left). On April 21st, 2023, iFunnyer[3] @Pretzel shared a Darth Vader "I lied" meme that referenced the format, gaining roughly 11,400 smiles in five days (shown below, right).
Going into April 2023, more chaotically cropped and rotated iterations surfaced on iFunny,[4] many of which included the iFunny watermark. The trend led to GIF and video iterations of the meme, such as a GIF shared by iFunnyer[5] @GreenMilk on April 22nd, 2023, that made the meme into a rotating sphere, earning over 250 smiles in four days (shown below).
