I Am A Fucking Architect or I Am An Architect is a series of memes based on a scene from the 2026 film Backrooms in which the protagonist Clark (played by actor Chiwetel Ejiofor) yells at his therapist Mary, "I am a fucking architect! I'm just stuck selling shit furniture because someone won't get off their fat fucking ass and help me."

In June 2026, the scene became the subject of memes on TikTok and Instagram Reels, including as an exploitable green-screen format, where it is attached to videos of poorly made Minecraft builds, as if the builder is insisting that they're good builds.

Origin

On June 5th, 2026, TikToker^[1] @jur.aep posted an edit using a scene from Backrooms in which Clark yells to his therapist about how frustrated he is selling furniture as an architect. In the scene, he yells, "I am a fucking architect! I'm just stuck selling shit furniture because someone won't get off their fat fucking ass and help me." The edit is set to Minecraft music and begins with a Minecraft achievement overlay.

On June 10th, TikToker^[2] @aaronck57 posted a meme further associating the scene with Minecraft, in which the scene plays in the corner while basic Minecraft builds are displayed on screen, garnering over 268,000 views in six days.

The I Am An Architect meme spread over the following days, primarily on TikTok and Instagram Reels.

For example, on June 11th, 2026, TikToker^[3] @litix24 posted a slideshow setting a series of memes to the audio that edits Clark as a Minecraft character in front of bad builds, gaining over 269,000 views in five days.

That day, Instagram^[4] user klotheshow posted a version of the meme that places the scene in the corner of a bad build that gained over 44,900 likes in five days.

On June 13th, 2026, TikToker^[5] @traveleralt posted a version of the meme showing a very simple Minecraft build, garnering over 555,000 views in three days.

On June 15th, Instagram^[6] user maleki_the_great posted a version of the meme that gained over 47,800 likes in a day.
