I Eat My Rice and Cabbage refers to a viral Vine of a teen named Jahdiah Norelus rapping about eating his rice and cabbage that was shared in 2015. The particular line of the song, "It's true that I'm a bad bitch. Bitch, I eat my rice and cabbage" was quoted on Twitter and then inspired a new sound clip on TikTok which became popular in lip-sync videos in April 2020.
Origin
In August 2015, a Vine video that has since been deleted of a teen rapping in school circulated. On August 10th, YouTuber Crey Crey reuploaded the video to YouTube and garnered over one million views in five years (shown below).
Spread
On September 10th, 2015, Jahdiah Norelus confirmed the video was of him after tweeting the video saying, "My teacher was too mad😂😛💅🏽" (shown below). The tweet received over 85,000 likes in five years.

In September, Twitter users began quoting the song. On September 25th, Twitter user @brittanyrennerr[2] tweeted a image of herself with the caption, "It's true that I'm a bad bitch…bitch I eat my rice and cabbage" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 460 likes in five years. On November 23rd, Twitter user @lohanthony[3] also tweeted the line and accumulated over 1,800 likes and 550 retweets in five years (shown below, right).
On July 8th, 2016, YouTuber Zel Bonaduce uploaded a video of himself and Norelus rapping the song in a car and received over 270,800 views and 5,400 likes in four years (shown below).
TikToks
On April 1st, 2020, TikToker @itzmejoeyyy uploaded a video of a group of friends singing and rapping the song which gained over 347,300 likes in nearly two months shown below, left). The sound clip became popular on TikTok in lip-sync video. On May 20th, TikToker @iamdiorrrr uploaded a lip-sync video using object-labeling with the sound and garnered over 413,000 likes in a week (shown below, right). StayHipp[1] published an article about Eat my Rice and Cabbage memes on TikTok.
