On November 21st, 2024, TikTok user @davidcharlesbailey^[1] posted the earliest video of “the white monster effect,” which features the fitness influencers @GHARILLA and @marcusbrownyeah swapping races after drinking the white Monster energy drink. The video amassed over 9 million plays and 1 million likes in a month.

Spread

The trend quickly became popular among fitness creators on TikTok, inspiring comedic race swaps transitions after drinking the Monster energy drink. For instance, on December 22nd, 2024, TikTok^[2] user @zohairkhans posted a video titled “The Yellow Monster Effect,” in which he drinks a yellow energy drink and it’s swapped with an Asian person (seen below). The video garnered roughly 247,000 plays and 29,000 likes in a day.

On December 4th, 2024, TikTok^[3] user @engquistelias posted a version of the “white monster effect” with their dogs (seen below), which amassed roughly 1.9 million plays and 359,000 likes in two weeks.
