I Need a Therian Girlfriend or I Want a Therian Girlfriend is a spam comment, catchphrase and copypasta popularized on TikTok in late February 2024 attributed to several TikTokers, including @wonderaven, @skibidininja98 and @Jo. The comment appeared on numerous videos that month, including clips of therians, beginning on or around February 22nd, 2024, inspiring memes about the comment.
Origin
On or around February 22nd, 2024, TikTokers began commenting "I NEED A THERIAN GIRLFRIEND" on videos, often videos of girls who identify as therians, which is similar to a furry although usually involves the person acting like an animal rather than an anthropomorphic animal. For example, on that day, TikToker[1] @wonderaven posted the comment under a video by TikToker[2] @am0spaws in which she stretches like a cat, the comment garnering over 2,900 likes in five days (shown below). Some have hypothesized that @wonderaven started making these comments to bring traffic to his page and promote his music.
Spread
The spam comment spread over the following days, inspiring memes about it and the people who posted it. On February 22nd, 2024, TikToker[3] @omni_man21 posted a video sharing the comment posted by @Jo, garnering over 300,000 views in five days (shown below, left). On February 23rd, TikToker[4] @roisture posted a meme threatening a user for leaving the comment on videos, garnering over 1.9 million views in four days (shown below, right).
