"I Pulled a Sneaky on Ya" is a memorable quote uttered by Steve Ross on the television series The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross. Online, people use a screenshot of Ross saying the line as the punchline to captions about small tricks.

Origin

On September 28th, 1993, the episode "Mountain Lake Falls" of The Joy of Painting aired in the United States. In the episode, Ross's son Steve Ross hosts and says the line, "I pulled a sneaky on you." On December 3rd, 2016, the video was uploaded to YouTube. The post received more than 5.7 million views in two years (shown below).

On March 19th, 2018, a Redditor ^[1]^[2] who has since deleted their account posted the image in the /r/2meirl4meirl (shown below, left). They captioned the image, "When someone asks you how you're doing and you don't want to admit you're depressed so you just say 'I'm fine.'" The post received more than 2,100 points (99% upvoted).

Over the next few months, Redditors on various subreddits, including /r/dankmemes, ^[3] /r/deadbydaylight^[4] and more posted variations of the meme (examples below, center and right).
