I Was In The Hood Too or Hood Avatar Trend is a meme trend inspired by the viral comedy skit titled "AVATAR THE LAST HOODBENDER" posted by RDCworld1 in December 2016. A clip from the original video was reposted on TikTok in April 2024, which inspired users to talk about their traumatic life events when a friend is rambling about their life being harder. The trend is also accompanied by a filter of the "Avatar State" from the Avatar: The Last Airbender series, which users add to express their rage towards a friend.
Origin
On December 7th, 2016, YouTuber[1] @RDCworld1 posted a comedy skit parody inspired by the Avatar: The Last Airbender animation, which revolves around the last hood "Avatar" in the world. The video (shown below) amassed over 12 million views and 433,000 likes in eight years.
On April 12th, 2024, TikTok[2] user @_starboycam posted a clip from the "AVATAR THE LAST HOODBENDER" skit in which the "hood Avatar" is confronting a man by saying "I was in the hood too" (shown below), which received more than 2.1 million plays and 464,000 likes in two weeks.

After @_starboycam posted a clip of the "AVATAR THE LAST HOODBENDER" skit, more than 6,000 were uploaded on TikTok using it as a viral audio.
For example, on April 20th, 2024, TikTok[3] user @mich.omwony used the "I was in the hood too" sound paired with the "Avatar state" filter and overlay text "When yo homeboy complaining about losing a 10/10 but yo android battery gell out in the middle of class in middle school," which amassed more than 2 million plays and 615,000 likes in a week.
Also on April 24th, TikTok[4] user @ty_louie345 used the viral sound paired with the overlay text "When my bsf says middle school was hard but I was gay and did track⦠they called me rainbow dash." The post (shown below, right) received roughly 3.9 million plays and 1.3 million likes in two days.
