About

"I'd rather not talk about it" is the catchphrase of Jim Morales, a character from the 2003 cartoon Code Lyoko. It is used until this day by the Code Lyoko fandom to express shame or insecurity about a certain topic or when one doesn't want to share details about and event or situation.

Origin

Although it only appeared in Season 2, the Episode 0 "XANA Awakens" actually tells us how the catchphrase started. After Jim trying to share his past experiences with Ulrich Stern and Yumi Ishiama during a martial arts class at the beginning of the school year, the duo laughed of his story, saying that, after he finished it, "Honestly, I think you would've been better not talking about it.". He never again told anything about his past, revealing only bits of information and finishing with "I'd rather not talk about it". The only exception to this rule is the Season 4 episode entitled "I'd rather not talk about it" when Jim trains the Lyoko Warriors in his "commando camp", in which he shares some facts about himself. His list of jobs includes experience as a firefighter, math teacher, commando, US navy seals special forces, test dummy for NASA space suits, Secret Services Agent, professional skateboarder, and actor in the movie "Paco, the King of Disco". He currently is a PE teacher at Kadic Academy, Paris.

Spread

Although the catchphrase never popularized outside the fandom, it is a joke that continues being used for over a decade since the original show ended, even with some breaf appearances in the reboot Code Lyoko: Evolution. In the universe of the show, we see the Lyoko Warriors being familiarized with the quote, using it frequently when talking about Jim's past and stories.
