About

I'm never skipping a cutscene again and it's shorter version Never skipping a cutscene again are phrases often used as titles in short videos of video games wherein the gameplay that follows after the player skips a cutscene is surprisingly different from the direction the cutscene was seemingly going.

Origin

In June 2019, before the phrases became commonly used, YouTuber and professional voice actor ProZD uploaded a skit on the video-sharing website that poked fun at the instances when video game players skip cutscenes with deep narratives and stories.[1] About four years later, the video amassed 11 million views and 399,000 likes.

In May 2022, Virtual Youtuber Jelee_Tea[2] uploaded a Short titled "When you accidentally skip a cutscene" with a skit of two 3D anime girls voiced by Jelee_Tea reenacting what generally happens in a cutscene before a video game returns to gameplay. Two years later, the video has amassed around 4,600 views and 268 likes.

In May 2023, YouTube user GO2GULAG[3] uploaded a video titled "never skipping a cutscene again" with footage from the video game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain that amassed over 2.3 million views and 71,000 likes in less than a year. The 33-second video starts with a cutscene from the protagonist's first-person perspective at a hospital bed talking to a doctor. The player decides to skip the cutscene, which leads the viewer to another cutscene within the game except its character models have been heavily modified with one of them T-Posing.

In April 2023, YouTube user Yeetastic uploaded a Short with a cutscene from the PlayStation video game The Last of Us. The video shows the player pausing the cutscene to skip it.
