About

Introducing Amazon Echo refers to a commercial for the Amazon personal assistant device Amazon Echo. Online, the commercial was mocked for being awkward and cringeworthy. On YouTube multiple parodies were made replacing Alexa, the digital assistant, with different fictional characters or popular YouTubers.

Origin

On November 6th, 2014, the commercial was released alongside the Amazon Echo itself [1]. The same day the commercial was uploaded to YouTube by the official Amazon [2] channel and later removed for an unknown reason. The same commercial was reuploaded again by YouTuber [3] Smart Home on August 5th, 2016 (shown below).

The earliest edit of the commercial was uploaded by YouTuber [4] Barry Mannifold on November 6th, 2014 (shown below). The video mainly consists of changing Alexa's dialogue and actions to be more crude and self-aware. As of April 2018, the video has received more than 4,000,000 views.

Spread

Throughout November 2014 multiple edits of the commercial were uploaded to YouTube. On November 8th, 2014, YouTuber [5] 2PRO4U20 uploaded a montage parody edit of the commercial which garnered over 160,000 views as of April 2018 (shown below, left). Two days later on November 10th, YouTuber [6] Brock Baker uploaded a parody in which he voices over every character which has garnered 65,000 views (shown below, right).

After December 2014 parodies of the commercial came to a decline until October 22, 2017 when YouTuber [7] Kaiser Rutger I. uploaded a communist parody of the commercial which garnered 20,000 views (shown below, left). It wasn't until November 28th, 2017 when YouTuber [8] grandayy uploaded a Big Shaq parody of the commercial garnering almost 3,000,000 views (shown below, right) that more parodies started to emerge.
