Origin

On April 9th, 2000, The Sopranos season two, episode 13, titled "Funhouse," aired. In the episode, Tony, Pauly and Silvio take Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero, a member of their crime family played by actor Vincent Pastore, onto a boat and drink with him before killing him for being an FBI informant.

In his final scene alive, Bonpensiero tells the three men, who are holding guns on him, that he needs to sit. He asks Tony, "Is that ok, Tony? That I sit?" and they open fire on him.^[1][2]

It is unconfirmed exactly when the scene was first used as a meme. However, it started to become popularized online in late May 2026.

On May 30th, 2026, X^[3] user @TonySneedprano posted a meme that places Bonpensiero in the Criterion Closet, captioned, "'is that ok tony? that i pick out salo: 120 days of sodom for movie night?'" garnering over 1,100 likes in two months.
