About

Tony Soprano Sees the Gyatt, also known as Tony Soprano Sees a 10/10 Gyatt refers to a series of videos based on a scene from The Sopranos in which Tony Soprano says at a dinner table, "How 'bout that prick's face when he saw the gat?" however, meme creators humorously misinterpreted the scene, imagining Tony saying, "How 'bout that prick's face when he saw the gyatt," as in, the slang term for an attractive women's large butt or breasts. Then, Tony makes a shocked face, looking into the distance. The scene is originally from the season 6 episode "The Ride" in which Tony also says the quote "We're with the vipers." Gyatt-related memes with the scene surfaced on TikTok in 2023, inspiring recreations and lip dubs that riffed on the format of TikToker @tonysopranofeetandtoes' video.

Origin

On May 7th, 2006, season 6, episode 9 of The Sopranos titled "The Ride" aired on American television.[1] In one scene, Tony Soprano and Christopher Moltisanti are sitting at a dinner table and Tony makes fun of a guy by saying, "How 'bout that prick's face when he saw the gat?" further mocking him by saying, "We're with the Vipers" (YouTube[2] upload shown below).

On May 31st, 2023, TikToker[2] @ny1xn posted an edit with the scene, adding a POV caption reading, "POV me and bro discussing the gyatt we just saw," receiving roughly 966,600 plays and 152,900 likes in four months (shown below). The video is currently the first known to make the "gyatt" misinterpretation.

Spread

The concept gained increased eminence directly following a moldy, low-quality video posted by TikToker[3] @tonysopranofeetandtoes on June 11th, 2023, which used Halloween music and put Tony's face through many filters, including, at the end, a crudely-made drawing of Tony's face. The video also used voice filters, speeding up and slowing down Tony's words. The top caption read, "ME WHEN I SEE THE 10/10 GYATT WALKING BY," including thirst emojis too. Over the course of three months, the video received roughly 1 million plays and 175,500 likes (shown below).

Soon after, TikToker[3] @tonysopranofeetandtoes' video, many on the app started to recreate it in real life. The first-known to do so was TikToker[4] @lkstallion on June 17th, 2023, gaining roughly 283,800 plays and 44,300 likes in three months (shown below, left). Later in the year, on September 3rd, 2023, TikToker[5] @00suli00_v1 continued the format in a video which received roughly 862,100 plays and 180,600 likes in 19 days (shown below, right).

Both aforementioned TikToks inspired further real-life recreations going into late 2023.[6][7]
