"Is Your Pussy Green?" refers to a piece of viral Broadway graffiti written over the Wicked play's advertising poster in which Glinda asks Elphaba, "Is your pussy green?" due to the witch character's green-colored skin. The catchphrase became a prevalent meme on social media since it was posted on Imgur in January 2014, sparking parodies and memes related to the Broadway show. In October 2024, the catchphrase resurfaced online after the Wicked film adaptation and its actress Cynthia Erivo criticized memes shared about her on the internet amid an online controversy.
Origin
The earliest known photo of the "Is your pussy green?" graffiti written over a Wicked poster was uploaded on Facebook[1] on January 23rd, 2014, by user Borgore, who wrote, "I've always wondered if the wicked witch's pussy was green." The post (seen below) amassed more than 4,400 likes and 100 reposts in a decade.

Spread
The Wicked graffiti became a prominent online catchphrase over the next decade, inspiring jokes and memes related to the Broadway show. For example, on May 25th, 2014, Imgur[2] user mockingVenus posted a picture of the Wicked Broadway play with graffiti written over Glinda saying, "Is your pussy green?" The post (seen below) amassed over 7,600 views and 5,000 likes in a decade.

On October 16th, 2024, Cynthia Erivo, the actress who plays Elphaba in the 2024 Wicked film, reacted to a viral fan edit of the Wicked poster via Instagram Stories, writing, "This is the wildest, most offensive thing I have seen, equal to that awful Ai of us fighting, equal to people posing the question 'is your * green.'"
That same day, the X account @PopBase[3] shared a screenshot of her post (seen below) amassing over 80,000 likes and 9,500 reposts in a day.
