It's Totally Okay To Let Your Goofy Side Shine Through is the caption attached to a viral video in which TikToker Andrew Curtis makes a number of silly expressions and mannerisms to show people that it's okay to be goofy. The video went viral on TikTok in late June, inspiring criticism across social media over the course of the next month. Notably, it inspired a number of Duet reactions making fun of the video's lesson and execution as cringeworthy. Curtis is known for his intentionally cringey videos.

Origin

On June 23rd, 2021, TikToker[1] Andrew Curtis posted a video with the on-screen caption, "It's totally okay to let your goofy side shine through ✨" set to an instrumental version of The Fray's "How To Save a Life" in which Curtis pulls a number of silly facial expressions and mannerisms, trying to show people that it's okay to be goofy (shown below). The video went viral, garnering over 19.5 million views in two weeks. Curtis is known to make purposefully cringey videos.

On June 25th, the video was shared to Instagram[3] by @on_a_downward_spiral, garnering over 200,000 views and 40,000 likes in two weeks.

Spread

On July 2nd, 2021, TikToker[2] @andreibuna duetted the video making a mockery of it, laughing and holding a toy gun up to his head and in his mouth (shown below). The video gained further viral success than the original, garnering over 35.3 million views in four days. On July 4th, the video was shared to iFunny,[4] garnering over 57,000 smiles in two days.

The video inspired a number of other viral Duets on TikTok in July. For example, on July 3rd, TikToker[5] @drizzyj.999 duetted footage of Bill Cosby making a funny movement after the clip, garnering over 4.8 million views in three days (shown below, left). On July 4th, TikToker[6] @robdon567 posted a Duet as if about to jump in front of a train, garnering over 21.8 million views in two days (shown below, right).
