About

Jackrabbits Eat Cows refers to a series of comedic misinformation videos on TikTok started by TikToker @thefarmerfran in which people act as if jackrabbits eat cows and panic when their cows go near jackrabbit dens. The first video in the series was posted in February 2025, with user @thefarmerfran continuing to post videos claiming that jackrabbits eat cows over the following months. The videos inspired other TikTokers to play into the joke with their own content about the dangers of jackrabbits. One common joke among viewers is that the farmer is actually referring to the mythical creatures jackalopes, which are depicted as jackrabbits with antlers.

Origin

On February 5th, 2025, TikToker[1] @thefarmerfran posted a video of himself chasing a jackrabbit off of his property. As he chases the jackrabbit, he falsely claims that they can eat baby calves and calls the jackrabbit a "thumper monkey" as an insult. The video gained over 13.8 million views in three months.

While jackrabbits can be a problem for farmers if they graze on the same grass as their cows, jackrabbits are herbivores and do not eat cows.[2]

TikToker @thefarmerfran continued to post videos about jackrabbits eating his cows over the following months, regularly garnering millions of views. Other TikTokers started posting their own videos playing into the meme in early 2025.

For example, on March 27th, 2025, TikToker[3] @stoneyhillwife, the wife of @thefarmerfran, posted a video of a cow with missing fur, claiming it's from a jackrabbit attack, garnering over 8 million views in two months.

On May 11th, TikToker[6] @leahjocelyn_ posted a video of some jackrabbits just outside her property, writing in the description, "A lot of yall commented on my last video that this was a joke but this is a serious issue for livestock farmers. We’ve lost 2 horses and 6 cows/calves this past month," garnering over 53 million views in roughly two weeks.

On May 23rd, 2025, a post was made to the /r/OutOfTheLoop[7] subreddit asking about the videos.
