Memes sharing the claim, including image macros, were popularized online in mid-December 2024, with the first known example being a Spanish-language video on TikTok.

Origin

On December 5th, 2024, TikToker^[1] @ivansaltenoz posted a selfie video reacting with shock under a caption that translates to, "Next year Christmas will fall on 25/25/25," garnering over 8.2 million views in 12 days. This is the earliest known example of the meme.

Spread

The video inspired other memes sharing the same false claim over the following days. For example, on December 14th, 2024, TikToker^[2] @kirkiimad posted a similar video where he reacts with shock under the caption, "Next year Christmas will fall on 25/25/25," garnering over 3.2 million views in three days.

On the same day, an image macro was posted to /r/lies^[3] using an image of Macaulay Culkin from Home Alone under the claim, garnering over 20,000 upvotes in three days.

On December 15th, Threads^[4] user bitoey19 posted an image macro using an image from SpongeBob to share the misinformation, garnering over 20,000 likes and 780 reposts in two days.

On December 16th, X^[5] user @RaeofGeorgia posted, "Next year Christmas will fall on 25/25/25 🤯🤯😳🥰," garnering over 50,000 likes in a day. Later that day, X^[6] user @ItzDaMoth made a similar post, garnering over 41,000 likes in the same rough span of time.

That same day, Instagram^[7] user jackandsallylovers posted a version of the meme that gained over 3,000 likes in a day.
