Jason Derulo Has Fall Down the Stairs refers to a viral photograph of a man in a white suit tumbling headfirst down a flight of red stairs at the Cannes Film Festival. The photograph is of an unknown man at the 2011 Festival, but many believe it resembles the singer Jason Derulo, inspiring several variations of the image and the caption "Jason Derulo has fallen down the stairs."

Origin

At the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, security attempted to apprehend and remove a man in a white suit rushing the red carpet. The man fell headfirst down the stairs (shown below).^[1]

On May 4th, 2015, people online began using the picture as proof of singer Jason Derulo falling down the stairs at the 2015 Met Gala. That day, in a since-deleted tweet, Twitter^[2] user @dashuasofjack posted the photograph with the caption, "Jason Derulo just fell at #MetGala. LMAO."

Spread

That day, as the image began circulating online, people dispelled the rumors that this was Derulo. For example, HuffPost tweeted,^[3] "Nope guys, that's not @jasonderulo falling. That's some other dude at Cannes in 2011. #MetGala" (shown below, left). Additionally, Derulo posted on Instagram,^[4] "Lmao I'm at rehearsal in LA. Fuq ya'll! Lol." The post has since been removed.

Over the next few years, people continued to share the image, joking that Derulo had fallen down the steps at different events. On January 5th, 2020, Twitter^[5] user @gmrdth tweeted, "Jason Derulo has fallen down the stairs at the Golden Globes!!!" The tweet received more than 63,000 likes and 8,000 retweets in less than one year (shown below, center).

On September 20th, 2020, Twitter^[6] user @heykyleharris tweeted, "Jason Derulo has fallen down the stairs at the Emmys on Zoom," adding a Zoom video chat control panel to the bottom of the photo. The tweet received more than 139,000 likes and 18,000 retweets in less than one month (shown below, right).
