Jon Arbuckle Dances To X is an exploitable meme made from a scene taken from a Garfield animated special. The meme replaces the music Jon is dancing to with different songs.

Origin

The special, titled Garfield Gets A Life, first aired on CBS on May 8th, 1991.[1] In the special, Jon tries various things in order to get a date, including going to a singles club. At the club he asks a random woman to dance, in which she reluctantly agrees. However, Jon quickly gets carried away as he tosses the woman aside and goes into a frenzy of disco moves (shown below).

Spread

On October 1st, 2016, YouTube user Shirt posted a video with Jon dancing to Joanna by Kool & The Gang with the title You shitposted in the wrong neighborhood. The video (shown below) received over 2.4 million views in nearly six years.

In November 2016, the Instagram account JonDancing was created to post Jon Arbuckle dancing to various songs by user requests. The earliest known post to the account was on May 26th, 2017, with a video of Jon dancing to the song Resonance by HOME (shown below, left). The most recent post was on February 25th, 2021, with a video of Jon Dancing to Don't You Want Me by The Human League (shown below, right).

On December 26th, 2018, YouTube user "Don't_Respect_Low_Tier_God_ #SALT" posted a video with Jon dancing to the Torture Dance song from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. The video (shown below) received over 48,000 views in over three years.

On August 27th, 2019, YouTube user ProofBlock posted a video with Jon dancing to Gangsta's Paradise by Coolio. The video (shown below) received over 96,000 views in over three years.
