"Jump Up, Super Star!" is a song from the Super Mario Odyssey soundtrack. Used heavily in the promotional material for the game and in subsequent Nintendo games, "Jump Up, Super Star!" became widely popular online, leading to numerous remixes, covers, and parodies.

Origin

"Jump Up, Super Star!" was written by Naoto Kubo[1] with English lyrics written by Rob Tunstall and Japanese lyrics written by Nobuyoshi Suzuki. The English version was sung by Kate Higgins and the Japanese version was sung by Aimi Mukohara. The song premiered on June 13th, 2017, during the Super Mario Odyssey's E3 2017 reveal (shown below).

The song continued seeing use in promotional material for the game prior to its October 27th, 2017 release date. The full song was uploaded to YouTube the day of the E3 by NintendoMovies, gaining over 4.1 million views (shown below, top left). A performance of the song was used in a commercial for the game posted to YouTube by Nintendo DE October 10th, 2017, gaining over 1.9 million views (shown below, top right). The night of the game's release, it was performed by actors in New York City outside the Nintendo NY store (shown below, bottom left). It was performed again at the December 2017 Game Awards (shown below, bottom right).

In the game, the song is performed during the level "A Traditional Festival!" where it is sung by Pauline, the mayor of New Donk City (shown below).

The popularity of the song led to remixes, covers, and parodies of the track on YouTube. User Adrisaurus posted a cover of the song on June 27th, 2017, gaining over 1.2 million views (shown below, left). User Cateen / Hayato Sumino posted a piano cover of the song on November 4th, gaining over 1.8 million views (shown below, right).


On October 11th, 2017, YouTube account The Living Tombstone posted a remix of the track that gained over 31 million views (shown below, left). On July 30th, Video Game Remixes posted a remix video that gained over 787,000 views (shown below, right)


Parodies of the song include a video posted by NicoPlay on the day of the E3 trailer showing various clips of people dancing, gaining over 200,000 views (shown below, left). User m a y o posted a Bart Testing Megaphones edit with the song on July 16th, 2017, gaining over 2.8 million views (shown below, right).


The song has also appeared in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate and an advertisement showing Pauline joining Mario Tennis Aces as a playable character (shown below, right).
