Just Ate Half A X, Saving The Rest For Later refers to a TikTok trend in which users share videos of the unconventional formats they half-eaten their foods. The trend is inspired by a tweet posted in March 2021 of a person showing half a sandwich with the caption Ate Half My Sandwich Prolly Save The Other Half For Later. In early February 2024, the catchphrase was paired with the song Little Life by CORDELIA, in which TikTok users mostly showed sandwiches, bananas and other snacks split in half in unexpected ways.

On March 20th, 2021, X[1] user @normalguycaruso shared a picture of a sandwich half-eaten paired with the caption "Ate half my sandwich prolly save the other half for later." The post (shown below) amassed over 264,000 likes and 30,000 retweets in three years.

A few years after the tweet went viral, TikTok[2] user @giomars_ used the original phrase "Ate half my sandwich prolly save the other half for later" in an overlay of a half-eaten sandwich video uploaded on January 22nd, 2024. The post (shown below, left) used the song Little Life by CORDELIA and amassed over 10 million plays and 1.8 million likes in two weeks.

Shortly after @giomars_ video went viral, TikTokers began to share other half-eaten snacks split in unexpected formats. Like user @actually.average[3], who posted a video of a banana filled with squared holes to suggest he only ate half of the fruit (shown below, right). The video received roughly 17 million plays and 3.2 million likes since posted on February 4th, 2024.
