About

Ken From Bee Movie Turning is an exploitable image macro meme showing the character Ken (who plays the jilted lover of Vanessa Bloome in the Bee Movie) turning around in disbelief or shock after she tells him that she's helping a bee sue the human race. The meme typically follows the format of Vanessa being made to say something strange or controversial, and Ken being shown to do a double-take at her. The template became particularly prevalent on Reddit in 2019. A single panel showing Ken's incredulous face is often used as a reaction image as well.

Origin

The animated film Bee Movie was released on October 25th, 2007, which revolves around the efforts of a bee named Barry suing the human race for exploiting and stealing from bees. The movie also follows a plotline in which Barry enlists the help of a florist named Vanessa Bloome and effectively woos her away from her boyfriend Ken. The scene depicted in the "Ken From Bee Movie Turning" meme can be seen below at the 1:30 timestamp.[1]

The earliest known viral post acknowledging the scene is a March 17th, 2014, Tumblr[2] post by user @darkwingsnark that reads, "He was honestly the only normal character in the whole movie." The post gathered over 90,000 notes in nine years (seen below).
