About
Kenshi Yonezu in A Car Accident (Japanese: 米津玄師交通事故シリーズ) refers to a series of parodies of the music video for "KICK BACK," the opening theme song for TV anime Chainsaw Man, written by Japanese pop singer Kenshi Yonezu.[1] The clips of Yonezu getting hit by a car in the video grew popular on Japanese Twitter, YouTube, and Niconico in October and November of 2022.
Origin
On October 25th, 2022, Yonezu published the music video "KICK BACK" on his YouTube Channel. Amid continuing unique and nonsensical scenes throughout the video, Yonezu gets hit by a car at about 2:09.
Spread
The following day, on October 26th, 2022, YouTube/Niconico user Kigata (稀方, @alphabet_keager)[2] kicked off a parody video series with a mashup (shown below, left)[3] of "KICK BACK" and another music video for "Fuyu no Hana", a 2019 song by Japanese rock singer Hiroji Miyamoto(宮本浩次)[4] (shown below, right). In the latter video, Miyamoto drives a car at exactly the same location where Yonezu gets hit by a car. His videos went viral and gained over 2 million views in total within two weeks. The number of videos tagged under this title on YouTube[5] and Niconico[6] increased to over 300 in that period.
