Chainsaw Man Chapter 167 refers to memes and reactions revolving around chapter 167 of the manga series Chainsaw Man in which the main character Denji gets an awkward "accidental" handjob by Asa Mitaka, a high school student who became the host of the War Devil, Yoru. The chapter was released in early June 2024, quickly sparking a viral debate, controversy and discourse among fans on X / Twitter under the hashtag #CSM167, given that the intimacy moment was portrayed as if neither character consented to it while Yoru (War Deivel) used her body in this issue. The moment was also compared to a similar scene in the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime, sparking parodies, memes and fan edits online.
Origin
On June 4th, 2024, Chainsaw Man chapter 167 was released on MANGA Plus by SHUEISHA[1]. The chapter shows War Devil Yoru's promise to Denji regarding his desire to have sex, in which the devil takes control of Asa Mitaka's body and forces a kiss and a handjob on the main character. The chapter ends with Asa's hand covered with Denji's semen. (seen below)

Just a few hours after Chainsaw Man's chapter 167 was released online, fans started to debate the explicit scenes and controversial panels drawn by Tatsuki Fujimoto. For example, on June 4th, 2024, X[2] user @ChainsawShots posted the All Three Are Going To Lie To You exploitable meme, adding the caption "never ask a chainsaw man fan what happened on June 4th, 2024." The post (seen below, left) amassed more than 18,000 likes and 2,800 reposts in a few hours.
On the same day, X[3] user @Sewnk1n posted the picture of a man carrying a friend in his arms, captioning it, "The state bro found me in after I read csm 167." The post (seen below, right) received more than 12,000 likes and 1,400 reposts in a few hours.
The chapter also received some comparisons and parodies with the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime, which features a hospital scene that implies the main character Shinji masturbates over a comatose Asuka. X[4] user @Chainsawpedia posted side-by-side images comparing Chainsaw Man's chapter 167 panel and Evangelion's scene (seen below), captioning "FUJIMOTO YOU FUCKING UNSERIOUS DICKHEAD." The post amassed over 29,000 likes and 2,200 reposts in a few hours.
Redditors also posted memes and jokes about Chainsaw Man chapter 167, such as Redditor @LeoLumina,[5] who posted the Chef Skinner Reading a Letter exploitable meme, pairing it with the #csm197 manga panels (seen below, left), which garnered more than 5,300 upvotes and 187 comments in a few hours. On the same day, Redditor[6] @NuggetM4 posted the Man vs. Giant meme (seen below, right), comparing the Chainsaw Man chapter 167 with the Jujutsu Kaisen's chapter 261. The post amassed roughly 329 likes and 18 comments in a few hours.
