Laxman meme

Part of a series of memes on Bollywood movie Main Hoo Naa. Laxman, mostly written in a sentence form as ‘Sabki nahi hoti Laxman’ ‘Sabko nahi milti Laxman’ etc., is a dialogue used in conversations to portray that it is not as obvious as it sounds. It’s a phrase that usually remains unanswered.

Origin

The dialogue ‘Sabki nahi hoti Laxman’ (everyone doesn’t have it Laxman) is a statement that Shahrukh Khan uses in a movie ‘Main Hoo Na’ that released in 2004. The meme has originated from this specific scene in the film where the leads – Shah Rukh Khan, Zayed Khan and Amrita Rao are on staircase. Ram (SRK) asks his half-brother Laksman (Zayed Khan) about his mother. Laxman replies, "Maa Toh Sabki Hoti Hain"(Everyone have a mother), to which Ram retaliates in a super emotional tone, "Sab Ki Nahin Hoti, Laxman."

The dialogue can be often seen on a variety of memes and jokes intended to express sigh and sadness. The first meme which used the dialogue in meme when it appeared on Twitter by a user called FameFucking when he created a meme and uploaded it on his profile on 15th August, 2017.

Spread

A website Wotpost describes the Laxman meme as a way by which SRK is trying to imply how lucky Zayed is. The site defines Laxman memes as, "This is another famous still featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Jayed Khan from movie ‘Main Hoon Na’. It is a 3-dialogue strip in which Shah Rukh Khan asks a question that seems very obvious & common to Laxman (Jayed Khan). However, SRK in third dialogue emphasizes that it is not as common as it may appear to you (making him realize that Laxman is blessed)".

Even though the first meme uploaded on Twitter was by the user Devanshu@FameFucking, two news channels quoted a different version of the Laxman meme by the same user. But the first two dialogues of the Laxman meme template were replaced with a different set of dialogues.

It sparked a fire of creating personalized versions of Laxman template. Another user ProfessorGyaanCho@theHasnainRaza posted another meme. (Shown below right)

However, on 16th August, 2017 a user Bollywood Gandu replaced the characters in the meme template with Salman Khan (another Bollywood actor). The dialogue were replaced with a different context this time. The meme was uploaded with the caption,’50 year old virgin’.

From being used with Bollywood actors, the Laxman meme began getting used on Indian cricketers, politicians and even porn stars. Till date the Laxman template has been replaced with Salman Khan (actor), Virat Kohli (cricketer), Rohit Sharma (cricketer) and Jonny sins (porn star).

A twitter handle East India Comedy EastIndiaComedy used the Hollywood character Batman and tweaked the dialogues to a small extent.
