Let Me Take a Selfie is a Vine video fad that involves lip-synching to a verse from The Chainsmokers' 2014 electronic dance single "#SELFIE" before taking a series of selfies in dramatic and comical poses.
Origin
Produced by the New York-based electronic dance duo The Chainsmokers, the music video for their single "#SELFIE" was uploaded to the YouTube channel [1] on January 29th, 2014. As of March 2014, it has over 12.1 million views.
On February 21st, 2014, Viner tristan m[4] uploaded a video of three girls taking a selfie as "#Selfie" played in the background.
Spread
Between February and March 2014,[5] Vine users tweeted videos with the tag #letmetakeaselfie over 23,000 times. Notable examples include a Batman themed Vine uploaded on by Viner Christiano Covino on March 3rd (shown below, left) and a mock injury-themed Vine uploaded on March 11th by Viner Brittany Furlan (below right).[7] As of March 14th Covino’s Vine has over 66,000 revines and Furlan’s Vine has over 100,000 revines.
On March 11th, 2014, Vine compilation YouTube channel Vine Türkiye[2] uploaded a collection of "Let Me Take a Selfie" Vines. As of March 14th, the video has over 270,000 views.
