Group of kids rob bank, still at large
Houston, Texas, USAMarch 14th, 2024

An [unarmed] group of kids [seemingly] between the ages of 14 and 17 robbed a Wells Fargo Bank, and are still on the run [as of 72 hours later]. (according to NBC News 4 San Antonio)

The official FBI Houston account on X (formerly Twitter) made a post on Thursday, March 14th, 2024 that instantly gained traction, deeming the robbers "Little Rascals".

The Twittersphere exploded with comments and retweets mocking the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation and Wells Fargo Bank for their utter ineptitude and indifference to the security of bank customers and the wellbeing of taxpayers. Many on social media used the event as yet another catalyst for renouncing their role as the insurers of last resort for the FDIC, lamenting about the parentage of today's American youth, the purported downfall of society and the dismal state of America's government and financial institutions' situation generally.

So-called "bitcoin maxis", "crypto bros" and memecoin enthusiasts, during a particularly precarious week of bull market enthusiasm and dubious momentum in trading price action, quickly coopted the meme as immortalizing a scrappy band of unlikely heroes, icons of their movement toward digital self-sovereign financial security and away from the traditional banking establishment. Tweets wishing the boys "Godspeed" and dovetailing with the "I ain't seen nothin'" meme became bulwarks for proponents of the cryptosphere. Cryptocurrency traders across every realm of social media began self-identifying with this cadre of "Little Rascals" all in specific reference to this hilariously ridiculous and exemplary debacle.
