Overview
Lord Miles' Haiti Invasion refers to a proposed paramilitary invasion and conquest of the island nation of Haiti, in crisis since 2018, suggested by British adventurer and right-wing influencer Lord Miles. First pitched by Miles in April 2025, the suggestion was met with enthusiasm from his social media followers, who applied to take part in it. As Miles continued posting about his idea through May 2025, he antagonized Haitian gang leader Jimmy "Barbecue" Chérizier online and announced an official application form for those willing to participate. The proposed invasion sparked various jokes on X / Twitter as it garnered attention online.
Background
In 2018, the Caribbean state of Haiti entered a political, economic and social crisis initially triggered by a rise in fuel prices and rampant corruption. The crisis escalated in 2021 following an attempted coup d'état and then the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse. The ongoing crisis has been accompanied by widespread poverty, a massive drop in quality of life in the country, and a massive gang war in the country's capital, Port-au-Prince.[9]
On April 26th, 2025, British adventurer and right-wing influencer Miles "Lord Miles" Routledge pitched an idea to overtake Haiti with "50 armed men" and create a new country in its place, writing, "I can’t believe nobody else is considering this." On April 28th, Miles wrote[3] that he received "hundreds" of messages from people willing to volunteer and move to Haiti should the invasion be successful.

In the following weeks, Lord Miles continued developing the idea of invasion, making more posts about it on X. Notably, on May 14th, Miles wrote that he "got something insanely big with Haiti agreed" and was looking for an institutional investor.[4] On May 18th, he wrote[5] that he was "putting a business plan for a new nation together."
On May 19th, @real_lord_miles posted a photograph of prominent Haitian gang leader Barbecue, calling him "his genetic enemy" and vowing to kill him in battle. The post (shown below) garnered over 330 reposts and 11,000 likes on X[6] in two days.

Also on May 19th, 2025, Lord Miles announced[7] that he would be posting a survey for those seeking to join the proposed invasion, writing that he was working on funding and "was very serious about the invasion of Haiti." An additional post listed professionals and nationals who would be prioritized for recruitment.
