Lu Punya Duit, Lu Punya Kuasa is an Indonesian catchphrase that translates to "(If) You got money, you got power." The phrase was uttered by Bayem Sore from the podcast SEADANYA. While the video the quote is sourced from was published in July 2022, it became the subject of various memes in Indonesia in the summer of 2023.

Origin

On July 7th, 2022, YouTuber^[1] SEADANYA uploaded a podcast video with Bayem Sore, primarily discussing human beings and the value of managing one's senses. In the podcast, Sore evaluates rich people by saying that wealth does not only equate to how much money one has since wealth is defined by how one spends or manages one's money and thoughts. The video received more than 712,000 views in one year (shown below, skip to 10:48).

_Lu punya duit, lu punya kuasa, tapi buat gua enggak. Ibaratnya gua yang gak bermateri melawan orang yang bermateri, bisa jadi gua menang soal pemikiran. (Translation: If you got money, you got power. But I don't think so. If I go up against someone who has money, I might be able to win based on my intellect).

In mid-2023, the catchphrase and the clip gained popularity through memes and skits. For example, on June 24th, 2023, TikToker^[2] @rullysarjana uploaded a skit mimicking the podcast by using the discussion to against his mother's order to buy 3 kg worth of gas cylinders. The video received more than 9.2 million views in three weeks (shown below, left). On the same day, TikToker^[3] @anangwaw uploaded a video of himself mimicking the podcast, in the middle of the discussion, he suddenly speaks in Thai. The video received more than 12.9 million views in three weeks (shown below, right).

On June 24th, 2023, TikToker^[4] @kadang.sokinggris uploaded a video of himself mimicking the podcast but speaking in English. The video received more than 1.6 million views in three weeks (shown below, left). On July 12th, 2023, TikToker^[5] @pendekarnasi uploaded a Japanese dub version of the podcast (voice taken from Instagram^[6] user @novaliakomori), the video received more than 1.6 million views in two days (shown below, right).
