About

Mario Karted is a video game fail trend in which players will highlight their comical bad luck on any game of Mario Kart. Used as a slang expression, getting "Mario Karted" generally means that a player will be hit with an absurd amount of items when approaching the finish line of a race, causing them to drop from the front of the race to the back.

Origin

The original "Get Mario Karted" video was uploaded to YouTube by HowBoutGaming on June 27th, 2014.[1] In the video, Princess Daisy is about to finish the final lap in DK Mountain in Mario Kart Wii. However, while she crosses the bridge, she falls victim to a spiny shell and a red shell (which the player defended with a green shell). This leads to her getting hit by two more red shells, being pushed off the bridge by Luigi and finally getting pushed off the bridge again by a Bullet Bill. The video ends with Daisy idling. The video (shown below) received over 5 million views in over seven years.

Spread

Over the following several years, multiple YouTubers uploaded similar examples of their comically bad luck in Mario Kart. For example, on December 12th, 2014, YouTuber DemonTails9000 posted an example of Wario being hit with an overload of items before the end of the race, gaining over 133,000 views in roughly seven years (shown below, left). YouTuber Mankalor later posted a compilation of "Mario Karted" moments, gaining over 97,000 views in four years (shown below, right).
