Me and ChatGPT refers to a series of memes that depict a person as being in a loving friendship or relationship with the AI chatbot ChatGPT, often using the phrase, "Me and ChatGPT." The memes started to become popularized online in late 2022 as ChatGPT began going viral on social media. Some of the most popular examples of the meme show people dancing with robots or other inhuman beings in celebration after ChatGPT helped them cheat on an essay.

Origin

On December 29th, 2022, Redditor u/ChatGPT posted a distracted boyfriend meme to the /r/ChatGPT^[1] subreddit labeling the distracted boyfriend as "me," the girl he's distracted by as "ChatGPT" and the girlfriend as "Google." The post gained over 300 upvotes in just over two years. This is one of the earliest known memes to follow the "me and ChatGPT" format.

Similar memes about people fostering close and arguably parasocial relationships with ChatGPT became increasingly popular over the following years.

On May 22nd, 2024, a now-deleted Redditor posted a meme to the /r/memes^[2] subreddit that garnered over 750 upvotes in a year.

On November 26th, TikToker^[3] @minionloverhalls posted a video captioned "Me and ChatGPT" that shows a person hanging out with a glowing figure, garnering over 14 million views in five months.

On March 28th, 2025, TikToker^[4] @timmorrel posted a similar meme to @minionloverhalls', in which he is shown interacting with a glowing figure as if they're dating under the caption, "Me and ChatGPT lately," garnering over 8.6 million views in a month.
