About

ChatGPT Psychic Mediums refers to discussions about internet users relying on ChatGPT for spiritual guidance, oftentimes by asking the AI chatbot to confer with spirits, do tarot readings, read "soul contracts" or access "Akashic Records," a Theosophic concept referring to a mystical library of all universal events. Discussions about using ChatGPT as a psychic or a spiritual medium can be traced back to several noteworthy TikToks in late 2024. The phenomenon began gaining traction in mainstream media in May and June 2025, with Rolling Stone and the New York Times publishing articles that detail people entering psychosis and splitting off from their family as a result of AI-driven delusions. Discussions about ChatGPT perpetuating spiritual delusions came soon after GPT-4o was accused of being overly sycophantic to its users.
