Mesopotamia High refers to a viral tweet and catchphrase coined by X / Twitter user @smartguyy in April 2022. References to "Mesopotamia High" and "Miss Ishtar's irrigation class" are used as a joke to call people old, often in Stan Twitter circles. Such posts sometimes make use of hieroglyphics to convey that someone is so old they might be able to read ancient text.

Origin

On April 2nd, 2022, X^[1] user @smartguyy quoted another tweet talking about how 2014 was a great year for music, writing:

"Oh my god Jared! Hi this is 𓀂𓂘 𓂀𓂳𓃱 do you remember we went to Mesopotamia high together? We used to be a problem in miss ishtars irrigation class."

The post gathered over 38,000 likes before @smartguyy's account was suspended.

Spread

On September 25th, 2023, X^[2] user @computer_gay replied to an image of a dinosaur, writing, "omg my study buddy from Mesopotamia High!" The post gathered over 1,000 likes in nine months (seen below, left). On October 3rd, X^[3] user @ungodlymonett used the catchphrase to quote a video of a Millenial meme-themed party and mock it for being outdated. The post gathered over 30,000 likes in six months (seen below, right).

On December 22nd, 2023, X^[4] user @jimmyoutsold posted a joke about Miss Ishtar's irrigation class, gathering over 4,000 likes in two months (seen below, left). On March 9th, 2024, X^[5] user @kirkxxs quoted the catchphrase to point out how people may call you old on Twitter / X (seen below, right).
