About
Mii Gunner is a fighter in the Super Smash Brothers series. The character is a Mii equipped with customizable attacks inspired by other "gunner" characters in Super Smash Brothers like Samus and Mega Man. The design is also customizable. This has led to humorous likenesses made with the character template, and after the release of Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, the character saw a significant uptick in fan art.
Origin
Mii Gunner was introduced alongside Mii Brawler and Mii Swordfighter in Super Smash Brothers for the 3DS and Wii U, which released in fall and winter of 2014, respectively.[1] The fighter has a customizable move set and look, but severe limitation of customization in competitive play led to the character ranking poorly in competitive tier lists and players rarely used the fighter in tournament play (example match shown below).[2] Of note, prior to customization the character default is female.
Spread
While the character was not popular among competitive players, its versatile aesthetic customization capabilities led to parodies and creations of Mii Gunners in the likenesses of certain people and characters, such as the Game Grumps or Chuck Norris (shown below).
Mii Gunner returned in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, where she along with the other Mii fighters were given tweaks to make them more competitively viable.[3] The character was also given many more customization options (character play shown below).
Fan Art
The character saw a significant amount of fan art after the release of Ultimate. Popular examples include a piece by DeviantArt user pedrocorreia (shown below, left) and a depiction of a pregnant Mii Gunner drawn by user DoDaDew (shown below, right).
