Model_falls_twice

Though many models have fallen on the catwalk, Kamila Wawrzyniak, an international high fashion model from Poland, had the unfortunate distinction of falling down twice, in an experience which was recorded on video by numerous cameras and televised across the world. The accident, which has been uploaded to YouTube by various people, has since been watched several million times.

Wawrzyniak (sometimes professionally known as Kamila W, and often referred to incorrectly as "Kamilia Wawrzynia"), acquired international infamy for an incident which occurred while she was employed as a runway model for Vivienne Westwood's Spring/Summer 2007 collection during Paris Fashion Week in 2006. One of the outfits she had been dressed in comprised the unfortunate combination of precarious orange-yellow stilettos and a large green watering can. Video footage of the fashion show was shot simultaneously from at least two angles, each of which can be found on the web. After reaching the end of the catwalk and turning around, Wawrzyniak lost her footing, slipped, and fell. Shortly after she recovered and continued to proceed backstage, however, her feet once again began to wobble, causing her entire body to totter. In the video she flails hunched over with arms outstretched to try and catch her balance, but then falls a second time, with the can she was holding landing on its base both times. From at least one of these angles, viewers can see that the watering can, which appears to have a capacity of more than a gallon, had actually been filled full of water, as it splashes up and out of the can's opening onto the runway. Wawrzyniak reportedly received a standing ovation at the conclusion of the show. Westwood had also designed a pair of stilettos which had previously caused Naomi Campbell to have a widely publicized fall on the catwalk.

Due to its being considered humorous, the footage of this incident was widely broadcast in the United States, both on local news programs and on national television shows such as The Maury Povich Show. One local broadcast in particular become popular viewing, likely due to the reaction of the show's news anchors reporting it. While narrating the situation, he begins to laugh uncontrollably after Wawrzyniak's second fall. The show's producers apparently contribute to this reaction by re-playing the event repeatedly.

Wawrzyniak, who hails from Częstochowa, Poland, has been signed with a variety of international agencies including IMG Models. She has appeared on the covers of Belgian and German editions of Elle magazine, in editorials for magazines including Grazia, French Cosmopolitan, Italian Cosmopolitan, Elle Slovenia, Elle Spain, Polish Elle and Glamour, and as a catalog model for Saks Fifth Avenue. She has worked the catwalk for clients including John Galliano, Christian Dior, Lexus, Elie Saab, L.A.M.B., GUESS? and Issey Miyake. As of 2010 she is still working in the industry.
