About
Monitoring the Situation is a catchphrase used to describe the act of watching a situation closely to stay up-to-date on it and track its current status. While the phrase has been used in memes throughout the 2010s, it was popularized as a meme in June 2025 on Twitter / X, as people began posting memes about "monitoring the situation" in reference to closely and obsessively watching current events to stay up-to-date. The increase in use is potentially due to rising tensions surrounding the Israel-Iran conflict and fears over the start of World War III, with the virality of the memes closely following the IDF's "Operation Rising Lion" strike on Iran.
Origin
It is unclear when the idea of monitoring the situation was first used as a meme. Memes about monitoring the situation as it relates to closely and obsessively watching world events to stay well-informed and up-to-date became increasingly popularized, particularly on X, throughout 2025.
