The original scene came from Episode 1 of Rick and Morty, Pilot, which was released on December 2, 2013. In the scene Rick is showing off a hideous beast to Morty.

The first recorded use of the image was when it was posted to the Rick And Morty Facebook on November 13 2013, becoming the first post for their facebook page.[1]
