About

Mr. Burns' Shadow Puppets, also known as "Pibby, Bluey, Ohio" is an exploitable video meme taken from a musical scene from The Simpsons. In the scene, Mr. Burns makes shadow puppets, and memers replace the puppets with various other images.

Origin

The scene originates from The Simpsons episode titled Gorgeous Grandpa, which first aired on March 3rd, 2013.[1] In the episode, Abe Simpson is reluctant about returning to wrestling under his alias "Glamorous Godfrey", but Mr. Burns convinces him with a song about being hated. In the song, Mr. Burns casts shadow puppets of various villains (shown below).

The first edit appeared on Twitter on July 20th, 2023, when user @TheRealNeo posted a short version that replaced the shadow puppets with Pibby, Bluey, and the state of Ohio] On August 15th, 2023, TheRealNeo posted the full edit of the scene (shown below), which received over 24,000 likes and over 5,300 retweets in over one week.[3] The clip was later reuploaded to YouTube on August 19th, 2023, by Agent Perry8018, where it received over 234,000 views in over one week.[4]

Spread

Over the following days, the edit inspired others to try their hand at editing the scene. For example, on August 25th, 2023, YouTuber BillyBobbyYT made an edit that gained over 29,000 views in six days (shown below, left).
