Origin

On December 14th, 2023, TikToker^[1] @amillionbean posted a video of rapper JT, known from the rap group City Girls, saying, "I don't even say bye no more, I just say 'muah, no bars,'" captioned, "me every 000000.2 seconds," garnering over 2.5 million views in a month (shown below, left). On December 15th, JT posted the clip without a caption to her TikTok^[2] page, @thegirljtworld, garnering over 4.3 million views in roughly the same span of time (shown below, right). It is unclear if the video was originally posted by JT at an earlier time or if @amillionbean is connected with JT in some way.

"No Bars" is a reference to JT's song of the same name, which was released in July 2023.^[3]

On December 29th, 2023, TikToker^[6] @kamtunechi posted a similar video where she says, "Muah, blocked," then the beat to "No Bars" plays, garnering over 1.4 million views in two weeks (shown below).

The original sound became notably popularized in January 2024, inspiring over 33,000 uses in two weeks. Similarly to the "no bars" sound, the most viral examples are lip dubs. For example, on January 3rd, TikToker^[7] @mruncle.desire posted an example that gained over 1.1 million views in six days (shown below, left). On January 4th, TikToker^[8] @brittanykianaofficial posted an example that gained over 900,000 views in five days (shown below, right).
